Inside Looking Out – Palace of Fine Arts

Image
Another shot from my walk-about in San Francisco. The Palace of Fine Arts is always a great target for photographers and I'm no different. It has it's challenges to shoot, as it's quite tall and it's hard to get into a good composition. This is shot from the Rotunda, looking out towards the columns that surround it. I had to use a couple of filters to straighten out the columns in the foreground and then my favorite Nik software filters. Oh, the sky was added in after the fact. You can see more of this shoot at my Flickr. Skip Kuebel, Photographer skiptown@comcast.net

Palace of Fine Arts

Image
This photo is from a recent photo walk-about in San Francisco. I wandered around all day starting at the Embarcadero by the Bay Bridge, all the way around Fisherman's Wharf, the Marina District, over the hill to Fort Mason and then finally arriving at the Palace of Fine Arts, the sun was starting down. The day was very warm and the sky bright and hard to shoot from this angle at this time of day. Note to self, next time I'll shoot here either at sunrise or early evening. I think this one came out nice. You can see some more on my Flickr site. Skip Kuebel, Photographer skiptown@comcast.net

Working with On One and Nik Software Filters

Image
I got an upgrade today to the OnOne Software plug-in that I use with Lightroom. I did basic color correction and straighten/cropping in Lightroom. Then I took it into the OnOne plugin and created a mask of the sky using Perfect Mask. They updated the module and it works pretty well in isolating the background and leaving the details. So, I took one of their stock background skies and put that in, then exported out to Nik Software Color Effects and ran one of my filter bundles on it, added a bit of river fog and here it is. Below is the original as shot from the camera and above is the finished piece. You can see some more on my Flickr page. Skip Kuebel, Photographer skiptown@comcast.net

Anna and the Prom Party

Image
My tennis buddy Patrick asked me to photograph his daughters prom party last weekend. What a nice group of (kids?) well more like young adults. They were fun, polite, and we had a great shoot. First we started out at the San Ramon fountain off Bollinger. There was one wedding party, two portrait shoots and us, all there at the same time, so we had to maneuver to find space to get the shots we wanted. After an hour or so there, the fun really started when we went out to a nearby park by the high school. I've never seen so many people all dressed up at one time. So we staked out a place by the small lake and then proceeded to the limo area to get some shots. Skip Kuebel, Photographer skiptown@comcast.net

New Website Design - Offutt Employee Benefits

Image
I've just finished and published a brand new website for a local Insurance broker in Pleasanton, Offutt Employee Benefits. Both the client and I are very happy with the way the site turned out. It was a lot of work as the health insurance business seems to be changing every day. Go by and take a look, I'd love to have your feedback. Also, if you are shopping for insurance, either Covered California or private health insurance she really knows her business and would be happy to help. Ask for Diane. You can visit the website at: http://offuttemployeebenefits.com "Offutt Employee Benefits in an independent Employee Benefit Concierge.  For over 34 years they have helped design, budget and administer employee benefit packages, all with hassle free services. Yahoo Recruiting Poster for Flickr

Image
Flickr used one of my photos to go on their recruiting posters that they will use at the Yahoo Campus as well as in social media to attract people to the Bay Area for work. I feel especially honored as you can imagine there are many pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge that appear on Flickr and for them to choose and use mine, is pretty cool! :) Also we received over 35,000 views! Below is the original photo as it appears on Flickr . http://www.flickr.com/photos/97777205@N03/11631564574/in/set-72157639166291253 Skip Kuebel, Photographer skiptown@comcast.net

Outside Pendleton, Oregon

Image
Rusted Truck and Tractor , a photo by skip.kuebel on Flickr. On a trip to Pendleton, Oregon I passed through a small town with some great abandoned buildings and old rusty farm equipment out in the fields. I shot some of these and you can see this shoot on my Flickr site . These were shot with the Canon 40D and brought into Lightroom v.5 for color correction, cropping and other basic fixes, then into Photoshop CC for spot removal and tilt-shift blur, then a pass through Nik software where I put my special mix of filters. Then a little noise reduction and then a tad bit of sharpening and this is the outcome. Skip Kuebel, Photographer skiptown@comcast.net
